OVERVIEW
OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTION
The Royal Arts Academy has a goal of producing technically competent manpower to meet the national requirement in the area of Film and Television Production in line with the policy and directives of the National Board for Technical Education. The objectives of Royal Arts Academy are also derived from the policy thrust of NBTE that, a product of Diploma in Film and Television Production should be able to:
Prepare costume and makeup for the screen.
Identify and operate equipment used in film and television production,
Perform as a/an director, actor, producer and editor, broadcaster, presenter etc.
Produce technically good films and television programs.
Beyond the above goals and objectives, the products of Royal Arts Academy Diploma in Film and Television Production must be creative, innovative, dynamic, enterprising, self-dependent, socially and economically relevant to himself/herself and the fast growing Nigerian and African entertainment industries. The policy of Federal Government of Nigeria and other governments at other levels, in the areas of self-employment and employability of tertiary institution products is also a guiding rule at the Royal Arts Academy which has direct impact on our products. Therefore, the Royal Arts Academy products should be able to create jobs and also seek advancement in any cognate institution within and outside Nigeria. A diploma holder from Royal Arts Academy can be admitted into any university in Nigeria and abroad for Bachelor or higher degrees.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates seeking admission into the Royal Arts Academy for a two-year National Innovative Diploma in Film and Television Production MUST possess:
1 Not less than 100 points in the current Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations {UTME} Score, in addition to five {5} credit pass in West African School Certificate {WASCE}, the General Certificate of Education {GCE}, National Examination Council {NECO}, Senior Secondary School Examinations {SSCE} or their equivalent which MUST include English Language. The other four {4} credits could be obtained from Arts, Science and Commercial related subjects at not more than TWO {2} sittings.
2 Candidates with a recognized one year certificate in Performing Arts, Music, Mass Communication, Media Arts, Creative Arts, Fine Arts and any other relevant discipline in humanities and science may be considered. In addition, they MUST possess five {5} credits O’ Level at not more than two sittings and these MUST include English Language.
Candidates with Ordinary National Diploma {OND}, Higher National Diploma {HND}, National Certificate of Education {NCE} and Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree, in core Humanities {Arts}, Management, Social and Natural Science disciplines may be admitted into Diploma One. However, they MUST possess five {5} credits O’ Level at not more than two sittings and these MUST include English Language.
3 Waiver may be granted to matured candidates of 30 years and above, who have evidence of practice, with four {4} credits O’ Level at not more than two sittings but they MUST possess credit in English Language.

TUITION FOR DIPLOMA
The tuition at Royal Arts is based on a standardized budget to fit the economy situation of our prospective students. The Tuition vary from Non- residential to residential students and the living expenses while they are in school. Cost expenses are divided accordingly and broken down in a session of the students academic related expenses during the program. Direct fee for school and practicals are paid to the school while other related expenses are paid to the designated bodies.

PROGRAMME DURATION
The programme shall last for a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years. A total number of 1800 contact hours should be covered in any case before graduation. The students of this programme may proceed after this to the polytechnics or universities for higher education (NBTE, 2007).
ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION
Students shall be assessed and evaluated based on their involvement or participation in the practical and theory examination with high consideration for Industrial Training (SIWES). Every student in the programme is expected to be assessed on their attendance and participation in class activities.
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING FOR ROYAL ARTS STUDENTS
Students are expected to proceed on the compulsory Industrial Training at the end of the second semester of the second year. They shall have a final assessment after this exercise which will enable them to have their final results at the Royal Arts Academy.

2020GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The Royal Arts Academy will award the National Diploma to candidates who successfully complete the programme after passing prescribed coursework, examinations, diploma project and the supervised industrial work experience (SIWES). Such candidates should have completed a minimum of between 72 and 80 semester credit units.

HISTORY OF ROYAL ARTS ACADEMY
Emem Isong’s journey from a starry-eyed Theatre Arts graduate to Nollywood success was fraught with obstacles on every side.
The producer thereafter determined that she would create an institution to equip aspiring filmmakers with the required skill, craft and knowledge to make their Nollywood-entry less arduous than hers was.
Early in 2010, Emem Isong and her team sought a suitable location for the school. They decided on Surulere for two reasons: first, it was the unofficial capital of Nollywood in Lagos. Domiciled there were the offices of the most of the Lagos-based movie producers as well as the most influential industry Guilds and Associations: second, Surulere was a great central point between the mainland and the island, giving prospective students easy access from both sides of the state. In July 2010, Royal Arts Academy opened at number 4 Adebisi close, Ajao Road, off Ogunlana Drive, Surulere Lagos.
Acting and Screenwriting classes commenced with eight students, one man and eight ladies.
With each succeeding session, students poured in in increasing numbers from all areas in Nigeria, and soon, from South Africa, Cameroon, Liberia, Kenya, Dubai and Mozambique. Soon, more courses were added: Editing, Directing, Dance, Psychology for Acting and Aerobics and Physical Fitness.
Alumni of the institution such as Theresa Edem, Ijeoma Agu, Lota Chukwu, Bunmi Ajakaiye, Etinosa Idemudia, May Owen, Debby Felix and Emem Ufot, etc. began to gain ground and prominence in Nollywood, using the experience and knowledge gained to expand the canvas of the Nigerian entertainment industry.
In July 2016, Royal Arts Academy was accredited by the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE). The students of this programme may proceed after this to the polytechnics or universities for higher education. (NBTE, 2007)
